Zusammenfassung des Artikels (englische Sprache):
The Film Museum Potsdam, founded in 1981, is the oldest film museum in Germany. Since 2011, it is an institute of the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. The Film Museum carries out three main activities, which are the temporary and the permanent exhibitions, the collections of film and film-related material and the cinema. The permanent exhibition focuses on the history of Studio Babelsberg, which is the oldest film studio in the world operating today. It allows the visitors to discover Ufa, DEFA and contemporary film. Its thematic core is the process of filmmaking from idea to premiere, referencing selected productions of the studio from 1912 to 2010. The permanent exhibition holds now the fourth edition of a permanent exhibition on Studio Babelsberg. Throughout five political periods, Studio Babelsberg has been a factory realizing the dreams of the creative and the powerful - from the German Empire to the age of globalization, during the Nazi era and in GDR times. From all these time periods, the exhibition presents more than 1.000 photos, about 350 film clips, and more than 500 objects. Visitors encompass seven theme rooms representing the stages of screenplay and casting, costumes and make-up, set design and construction, filming, editing, sound design, and cinema presentation. The permanent exhibition can be visited as part of guided tours. The tours cover different formats and address people from all ages, international students from various disciplines, families, or participants in adult education events.
The Film Museum faces the major challenge of asserting its social relevance as an open, mediating, democratic, inclusive and diverse institution for and with citizens. That is why we see it as our mission to bring film heritage to life with cultural-historical exhibitions, events and educational programs. Another challenge for the Film Museum Potsdam is the depot display which will give insights on the Film Museum's collection works and holdings and will open at the end of 2024.
