19 May 2005 - 17 July 2005
(On the occasion of Martin Hellberg′s 100th birthday 1905 - 1999)
Martin Hellberg put his heart and soul into theatre and filmmaking. Between 1952 and 1964, he directed 16 DEFA feature films – adaptations of classics such as "Kabale und Liebe" as well as contemporary political films such as "Das verurteilte Dorf", for which he received honours.
"The ′film man′ Martin Hellberg was spun around heavily by the ′vortex of truth′. However, a basis remained that we may participate in with profit and pleasure." (Fred Gehler)
Hellberg′s Goethe in "Lotte in Weimar" (DIR: Egon Günther, 1974) became the late climax of his artistic work.
The same exhibition – plus additional features regarding his theatre career – was shown in Bad Berka as of 23 July 2005.
