“That’s what a communal cinema should be like! In terms of contents, programmes, and structure, Filmmuseum Potsdam performs exemplary work in the field of publicly financed cinematic culture,” it says in the jury’s reasoning. Sachiko Schmidt and his museum cinema team are happy to be the winners of the first prize in the category “Cities with 100,000 to 200,000 Inhabitants”. The prize comes with a purse of 4,000 Euros and was awarded to the team by the Kinematheksverbund jury on 11 July 2010 in Berlin. Furthermore, the jury stated: “Both contemporary film art and film history are presented in a way that involves more than just showing films: Always focusing on cinema as a part of cultural education, the museum develops film series that put the individual works into intelligent and interesting contexts.”
