As the first German film actress, Henny Porten ranks among the outstanding representatives of this art form. As of 1933, the most popular silent film actress of that time encountered serious repressions because she refused to divorce from her Jewish husband. After 1945, she got into the confusions of the Cold War.
Evidence from her life and works that goes back until DEFA times was taken over by Filmmuseum Potsdam in 1999. Our first archive presentation displayed a selection of exhibits in the museum foyer.
